This Case Study is an example of a landfill gas (LFG) utilization project
undertaken on a medium-sized, municipal landfill that collects primarily residential,
institutional and commercial waste. The Site is owned by the Regional Municipality of
Waterloo (RMOW) and has been accepting waste for more than 30 years. With the
closing of the Kitchener Landfill, this site now serves a population base of
approximately 450,000 people in the cities of Waterloo, Kitchener, and Cambridge, in the
province of Ontario.
